very busy week....today is my last "free" day to get ready for jack's bday party on Saturday (his FIRST EVER friend party) and i'm being such a procrastinator!
Starting tomorrow at 8 AM, i'll be running to a million things (jack to dr, gtwn chamber lunch, work @ SRVS, LP Evening Event for SRVS, LP Breakfast at 7AM on Fri, prep for SPIRIT of SRVS wine tasting event to be held Sat night, etc, etc.)...and it doesn't let up til about midnight on Saturday!!!
I have typed up all the plans for Jack's party, done all the shopping for the party and I started the treasure maps and clues...but the crummy part of cleaning my house is left, as well as finishing the game preps, making the cake, wrapping presents, etc.
I have 2 hours til Jack gets home so i better get to work here!
But first, let me tell you how bad i've procrastinated...spent the last hour online reviewing "new" music. My new favorite station is HOT 107.1 WHERE HIP HOP LIVES...mainly b/c they rarely talk and don't have many commercials....so when i'm in the car, its usually tuned it b/c i hate talking on the car radio! I really must have some TUNES!
I posted two of my new favorite songs on FB: Maino's "Million Bucks" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4xPEorcsRU and Muck Sticky's "Because I Can" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7iGeR0toxk (not sure if those links will work but you can go to YouTube and search for them if you want.
The other thing that's been buggin me lately is the wierd feeling like i'm back in grammar school and didn't quite feel like i fit in....i guess it's stress and hoping my son is happy and fits in with his classmates. Some of the parents seem to understand the "inside or unspoken" rules of the school and it's frustrating when I ask questions (being a first time, first grade mom) and they look at me like i'm a big dummy, like i should know this stuff. Well, just where am I supposed to learn this stuff? Just b/c some of these people actually went to this school when they were young and/or have older kids and/or are so into PTA they have the "inside scoop", doesn't mean that they should be rude about it to the newbies!??!?! It's just one of those snotty things about living in the burbs that annoys me!

Plug for Good Wine Blog
I have it over there on the right side bar that I "follow" or "read" Fredric Koeppel's "Bigger Than Your Head" wine & food blog regularly, but i just want to plug it again b/c it is just so well written, funny and informative.
This blog entry about what Obama keeps in the mini-bar at the Kennedy Center was interesting, funny and "patriotic":

It also doesn't hurt that he won an award for writing this blog as well!

Be the judge yourself, but read a few entries on his blog and I think you will really enjoy it!
Cheers! (stealing John's line)

yeah, i've got a blog....but too tired to go there now....was watching paul mccartney on letterman and thinking WOW, geez, he must've jump on the healthy bandwagon early and also that ppl in nyc are great (maybe just its more of them than in other cities so the interesting ones really come out for outdoor concerts), then i was worried that the ... Read Moremarquee might not be able to hold up paul and his band, then when i grabbed a piece of paper to write my thoughts down before i forgot, i thought, i wonder if this is some paper that Papa bought (my g'pa who passed many many years ago, but always bought way too much stuff)...and on and on....

from yesterday (which actually started a bit of a "wave" online w friends:
Rules: Don't take too long to think about it. Fifteen books you've read that will always stick with you. First fifteen you can recall in no more than 15 minutes. Tag 15 friends, including me because I'm interested in seeing what books my friends choose. (To do this, go to your Notes tab on your profile page, paste rules in a new note, cast your 15 picks, and tag people in the note - upper right hand side.)Remember, the list is not about the best books ever or even, your favorites - just the ones that come to mind first, have made a lasting impression, etc.**I did this before looking at Colleen's list (who sent me this) and then wanted to go back and change some of mine, but didn't** I'd probably change my list if i had more time and energy!

i haven't had much time for the blog or the facebook or much p.c. time in general this past few weeks....i've been out there LIVING! so this is generally a good thing, right!?!?

Independence Pass

The Cascades on The Grottos Hike

Kids in front of their namesake Pub in Colorado Springs
i haven't had much time for the blog or the facebook or much p.c. time in general this past few weeks....i've been out there LIVING! so this is generally a good thing, right!?!?
but right now, i'm uploading pix (OOOPS just found out that multi-tasking on the pc may make things a bit slow and wonky) and waiting for kids to settle down to sleep (tomorrow is the first day of first grade for jack), so i thought i'd tap out a few thoughts.
just had an amazing, fun trip to colorado. Quick summary of the trip:
Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun: were spent with the Loud family (Dad's side of the family who have been having family reunions every summer for about 20 years now!) in Breckenridge. We swam in the pool, slid down a mountain, explored a mine, drank lots of good wine & ate lots of good food & visited w all our cousins we don't get to see very often.

Country Boy Mine Tour

Alpine Slide @ Breckenridge's Peak 8 (Chris & Jack are second behind that other kid and Q is looking on from the right)
Mon: we had a day in the mountains exploring (Independence Pass, the Grottos, Buena Vista, Wilkerson Pass and then drove into Colorado Springs late)

Independence Pass

The Cascades on The Grottos Hike
Tues: the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and Uncle Wilber (met up w some friends and their kids) and Phantom Canyon and Jack Quinns (of course)

Kids in front of their namesake Pub in Colorado Springs
Wed: a day of visiting old friends/collegues at the libraries in COS, with dinner up in Denver w some wonderful friends
Thurs: not allowed to take J & Q into the Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art - http://www.kirklandmuseum.org/ b/c they are under 13 so we took them to MCA DENVER (MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART DENVER) - http://www.mcadenver.org/, walked around capitol lawn, ate lunch at Wyncoop Brewery and caught plane back to Memphis (sat in plane at gate for ONE hour while storm passed)
the past few days have been busy but kind of nice to be back in a bit of a routine and AT HOME for a while. i worked a few hours on friday, then spent saturday trying to catch up on laundry, went to the gym and then church today (good sermon on "connecting" via online networking sites vs. REALLY connecting with others) and the stress-filled "JOY" of school supply shopping!
