So we are celebrating Mother's Day during a pandemic...it is Day #76 for ME, b/c I had surgery Feb 24, just about 2 weeks before the "official" declaration of a pandemic in our world and when our Colorado Governor declared a state of emergency and locked us all down.
Mother's Day (and today it falls on my Memo's 103rd birthday) is usually a tough holiday for me...I miss my Mom...
...but that is not what I want to talk about today.
BIG HUGE NOTE: So that I don't have to keep re-stating it in this commentary below (and it seems like SOME are constantly trying to "set me straight"), THESE ARE MY OPINIONS, so please don't start trying to tell me why this is wrong (based upon your unique perspective of the world).
Lately, over the past few months, when I wake up, I stay in bed and think. It's a good time when my mind and body are relaxed to give my brain time to figure out solutions to a variety of things that puzzle me or things I need to figure out for the benefit of my family, friends, or colleagues at work.
Anywho, this morning, I awoke and my mind wanted to think about Science. IMHO, I am pretty sure that God and the Universe gave humans this fabulous gift called "science" so that we could develop solutions and/or find the answers that will make life better for all humanity. These solutions/answers are probably already there, but as mere (less than God and the Universe) humans we can only find these if we are willing to apply ourselves and do the work to learn these "truths".
It feels like humans are
generally (this does not mean ALL, but those who are in the middle of the bell curve - and I am not talking I.Q., see illustration, but I DIGRESS) lazy bums who expect everything to be easy and given to us on a silver platter. We take the first, plausible solution/answer/truth that aligns with our values; and then we are done doing any more thinking on a topic. We are not well-programmed to be continuous learners and searchers for truth.

Therefore, we find a few things written by others (perhaps we feel these are experts who can be relied upon) that fit our own world view and try to pass this off as the answers/solutions/truth. Not many (except maybe ACTUAL SCIENTISTS) are willing to do the really tough work of researching multiple, varied sources or complete an actual EXPERIMENT to determine the solutions/answers/truth.
So this makes me think that more people should actually BELIEVE in Science rather than disputing it b/c some article (usually political and or an opinion piece) that they read.
...or another problem seems to be those who they think they know better b/c based upon their particular brand of religion (which is generally created by other humans, and/or fashioned and upheld by some human who has the charisma to perpetuate the idea that he/she was chosen by some higher source to "lead" their congregation) is stronger/smarter than science....
....to that, I reply:
"Guess what!?!?
Science was a gift to us to be used wisely as humans."
I need to find other examples in other faiths, but from my Christian background, may I remind my fellow Christians of Jesus's parable of the talents (Matthew 25: 14-30)?
