My Recs for Friends Visiting Colorado Springs

I typed this list below for my friends BethAnne and Shannon who will be staying at The Broadmoor this week, and thought i would park it here for others to see what I like to recommend to people visiting our WONDERFUL, AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL town here in Colorado!

PLUS, you can't format text well on Facebook, nor easily post a pdf...at least I don't know how...hee hee....

This doesn't even take into account if they were going to stay in Colorado longer and the HUGE variety of options not far from the Pikes Peak region (Denver, ski areas, etc.)>>>I may add some pix later, but the Broncos Game is about to start!!!

Sheila’s “Tourist” Recs in Colorado Springs
  • There are SEVERAL brew pubs throughout the surrounding area, and you can just google away if you want to go on a bit of a tour…I added some of our favs in the recs below mixed in with the areas of town.
  • YOU MUST go to the Golden Bee Pub at The Broadmoor! 😉  All the restaurants there are good, but pricey…
  • US Figure Skating Museum is at The Broadmoor and the Zoo is right up the hill from there.
  • They also have a bus that will take you to Seven Falls and some other pretty outdoor sites.

Major Tourist Attractions:

  • Pikes Peak – don’t know if ya’ll will have time to drive to the top, but it’s super cool and they have fresh donuts at the top!
  • The US Olympic Training Center is pretty cool place to visit.  Sometimes you see some of the Olympians training. 1 Olympic Plaza, Colorado Springs, CO 80909 https://www.teamusa.org/csotc
  • US Air Force Academy – you must enter at the North Gate (not too far from my house!), but they have a really cool Welcome Center and the Chapel is GORGEOUS!!! https://www.academyadmissions.com/visit-the-academy/self-guided-tours/visitor-center-information/
  • Garden of the Gods 1805 N 30th St, Colorado Springs, CO 80904 https://gardenofgods.com/ (even if you don’t have time to go to the GOG Visitor’s Center or hike around, drive through – it is STUNNING!) and if you do have time “The GOG Trading Post” www.gardenofthegodstradingpost.com/ has some cool souvenirs. 324 Beckers Ln, Manitou Springs, CO 80829

Not far from the Broadmoor:
Bristol Brewery (one of the earliest “pioneers” in the renaissance of American brew pubs) and cool old elementary school called Ivywild converted into shops and eateries || 1604 S Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80905  http://ivywildschool.com/

Downtown Colorado Springs: Pretty small downtown, but walking up and down Tejon are cool shops, art and eateries:

Some of my fav downtown restaurants:

  • Jack Quinn’s Irish Pub (21 S Tejon St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903) jackquinnspub.com/
  • Phantom Canyon Brewery (another “early pioneer” and our current Governor is one of the founders of this one!) 2 E Pikes Peak Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80903  www.phantomcanyon.com/ The 1905 Carnegie Library that I raised $3.5 Million for in 2000 is across the street – beautiful old library attached to the main library downtown.
  • Sonterra Grill (Southwestern/Mexican) 28B S Tejon St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903 sonterragrill.com/
  • The Warehouse - 3120 N El Paso St, Colorado Springs, CO 80907 https://www.thewarehouserestaurant.com/
  • Coquette’s Bistro – where I recommend we meet for lunch. 616 S Tejon St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903 www.coquettesbistroandbakery.com/

If you have time, go see Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs – these are cute “little cities” very close that are cool to walk around:

Old Colorado City (and my fav restaurants there):
First capitol of Colorado and neat “Old West” kind of town.  Lots of neat shops to see; and several good restaurants, some of my favs:

  • Pizzeria Rustica  2527 W Colorado Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80904  https://pizzeriarustica.com/
  • Front Range BBQ (best BBQ we have found if you have a hankering for home!)  2330 W Colorado Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80904  frbbq.com/

Manitou Springs - FUNKY HIPPY TOWN (of course, MY FAVORITE PLACE)– really cool shops, art, and people watching!  Up right against the mountains.

  • The Penny Arcade is very fun!  😉 930 Manitou Ave, Manitou Springs, CO 80829
  • The Stagecoach Inn Restaurant (kind of touristy, but has that cute Old West feel): 702 Manitou Ave, Manitou Springs, CO 80829
  • The Loop (Mexican) 965 Manitou Ave, Manitou Springs, CO 80829 http://theloopatmanitou.com/
