US Nonprofits and Politicians

I just had an "AHA"moment...truly if nonprofits in the USA ceased to exist, most the "important" (i.e. politicians who seem to RULE the USA) people would not really care.  It isn't on their radar b/c there are not too many major lobbyist or politicians who care about the disenfranchised who are UNABLE to "feather their beds."

Their rallying cry is probably (not publicly bc that won't ever get them elected, but perhaps, privately when money is being discussed): "Give me your money, and I will make your happy."  vs. the IDEAL of the USA so eloquently composed at the end of Emma Lazrus's poem at the Statue of Liberty:
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

It is a very sad state of humanity, but then again, as a typical "lazy American", i should be happy that my work isn't really that "important".   i can just coast....who really gives a crap about anyone who doesn't have money or political power?  who really cares if people with developmental disABILITIES receive equal rights and opportunities to be productive citizens?  politicians are not creative or strategic enough to see the POSSIBILITIES and the ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES that ppl w IDD could provide to this country!

OH wait an "F'n" minute...  it might mean something to the people that i actually help along with their families.

1-3%  have a developmental disABILITY in the USA.

HMMMM, WOW...they are probably in the majority compared to the % of politicians who are elected to serve the rest of us and SHOULD be representatives of ALL our interests!

FRUSTRATION: random thoughts pulled back from FB b/c i'm a little tired...

(sorry, i couldn't go a week without a rant) GEEZ i sure wish that one of these politicians AND THE MEDIA machine that gives them "PLAY" would take on a cause like poverty, homelessness, education, or lack of decent healthcare & employment options for people with developmental disabilities RATHER than immigration and gun rights. I guess standing up for those who truly need help is not as "SEXY" as trying to shove your interpretation of the constitution down everyone's throats!

Pretty sure Jesus would want to let the little children into the USA

are the conservatives who are against these kids from other countries (coming to the US b/c their LIFE IS HORRIBLE in their own countries) worried about the COST of taking in these kids?  are they worried about what these kids might take away from their VERY OWN kids (literally, their own kids, not "their kids" as in the rest of the children in the USA that we neglect)?

IT IS interesting that BOTH liberals and conservatives think that our country is so "mis-guided".  The liberals cannot believe the way "religious freedom" is being used to justify (CLEARLY non-Christian, but in the name of Christ none-the-less) values of self-centeredness claiming fiscal responsibilty rather than worrying about the quality of life for the less fortunate.  And the conservatives cannot believe the idea that the variety of people of this country are trying to apply their "DIFFERENT" (read: non-Christian) ideas, cultures, religions, life styles, etc. in order "to create a more perfect union."

I get road rage EVERY FUCKING DAY b/c of these RIDICULOUSLY (imho) NEGATIVE bumper stickers that people paste on their cars.    Some examples:
"Is this Hopey-Changey Thing Working for You?"
"Obama is so full of shit, if he took an Ex-Lax he would disappear"
etc.

I SOOOOO WISH people could decide to be POSITIVE and not spend their money on these negative ads and then deface their cars.  I embrace "Freedom of Speech" so they can do what they want to do, but I'm really seriously SAD that they spent their $$ on those stupid bumper stickers.

WHY don't they donate that amount spent on bumper stickers (one guy had about 10 stickers at $2 each, i estimate $20 worth on his car) to a cause that would actually make a difference?

THAT stupid bumper sticker didn't really accomplish anything but PISS me off and make me wonder:
 "Is that a Christian?"  "WWJD?"

It seems like to me, that generally conservatives are Christians or claim to be, so why are they complaining without action, and why aren't they feeding the poor, clothing the naked, welcoming the stranger, etc.?  Why are they "stirring the pot" of negativity?  What is that STUPID bumper sticker REALLY accomplishing??
